Londelius: The Story of an EP
I often think about the albums I've never recorded. The times I was too busy teaching or giving myself to other's projects that I felt my ideas weren't important. The ensembles that never got off the ground. The body of work I could compose. I'd definitely get around to sitting in front of the piano next week four sure. A cycle that kept me pining for something of my own, only to be stymied by a mix of procrastination and perfectionism.
I don't enjoy talking about the music itself, because I hope it speaks to whatever world you want to see in it. But the how is important; how I got here. Londelius is the first of two albums that explore my original compositions and arrangements for the standard organ trio with saxophone. Londelius is also a personal statement. It's the street I live on and the home where I wrote this music. It's the place where I confronted my inactivity and moved towards being the artist I wanted to be.
I have to credit Chris Schlarb for hearing me on other's sessions and mentioning what I could accomplish on an album of my own. A concept. A deadline. A band. All this pushing me past my fear so I could just get some work done.
This ensemble is packed with musicality and humanity. It includes Jeff Parker on guitar, Carey Frank on Hammond organ, and Tina Raymond on drums. Anna Butterss is featured on acoustic and electric bass for the suite of three original compositions. And it was all recorded and mixed at the incomparable BIG EGO Studios by producer Chris Schlarb and engineers Devin O'Brien and Jason Chavez. There will be more details about the personnel and session in the June newsletter coinciding with Londelius' release.
As a final sneak preview, here is the incredible album cover Michael Wysong created for the BIG EGO Records release!
I hope you enjoy these initial offerings and I can't express how excited I am to have it all released over the next few weeks!
